Acting responsibly also means acting in a sustainable manner. Following this guiding principle, we attach importance to the issues of climate and environmental protection in our decisions in building measures, modernisations or procurement. We will briefly introduce you to the key measures we have already implemented for sustainable development.

Honeybees

vergrößern

Since June 2018 the Sportschule offers valuable living space for just under 180,000 bees. The settlement of the bees on the site of the Sportschule should show that it is relatively easy for everyone to set small, positive accents for the protection of nature in the middle of built-up room.br />

Solar heat

vergrößern

The heating of the pool water in our indoor pool is supported by a solar thermal system with a power of about 10 kW. To the same extent, less fossil fuels has to be used to heat the water.

Procurement of elecricity and gas

vergrößern

Electricity oft the Sportschule does not "just" come from the line. When purchasing, we take care that our electricity is 100% of regenerative origin. Our electricity is about 75% of hydropower plants and about 25% of wind farms. Our green electricity is tested and certified annually by TÜV-Rheinland.

For our consumed quantities of natural gas, our supplier acquires CO2 credits annually from certified and verified CO2 reduction projects. This will completely offset the CO2 emissions from the combustion of natural gas.

Photovoltaic

vergrößern

Two photovoltaic systems with a total power of 170,55 kWp have been installed on the roofs of our multi-purpose and artificial turf hall since June 2010. The two photovoltaic systems produce approximately 150,000 kwh of current each year, which means that 50 households with an annual average consumption of 3,000 kwh could be supplied. The production of electricity ensures a CO2 saving of about 75 tonnes per year.

Block heat and power-plant

vergrößern

In the context of the rehabilitation of the local heating plant of the Sportschule in 2016, a block heat and power-plant was installed in addition to highly efficient condensing boilers. Both were put into operation in November 2016. Due to the simultaneous production of heat and electricity (so-called cogeneration of heat and power), the used fuel gas is optimally and environmentally friendly recycled. The CHP has a thermal output of 180 kw and an electrical power of 150 kw.

Utilisation of rainwater

vergrößern

Not far from the sports ground at the main building, five cisterns with a capacity of 50,000 liters were installed. In the cisterns we catch rainwater and use it for irrigation of the sports field. The need for fresh water for the irrigation of the sports field could be significantly reduced by the installation of the cisterns.

Electirc vehicle

vergrößern

In July 2018 we were able to operate our first electric vehicle for trips on the premises and in the vicinity. Numerous trips, for which we have used the previous, conventionally fleet, could be make more environmentally friendly and without local emissions. The aim is to gradually redeploy our fleet to electric vehicles.
